HOGHTON VIEW

Hoghton View Herefords graze the surrounding fields of Hoghton Tower an area steeped in history. Check out our gallery or news pages to see photos of the cattle out at grass!

Close to the centre of Hoghton and perched on a steep hill 556ft above sea level, Hoghton Tower is strikingly situated around half-way between Preston and Blackburn. With views ranging from the mountains of the Lake District to North Wales, the large expanse of west Lancashire stretching out to the Irish Sea.

Among the history of Hoghton is the visit of James I to Hoghton Tower, where he stayed for 3 days, 15th-18th August in 1617. It was said that a plush red carpet was laid the entire length of the mile-long drive from the Royal Oak Inn to greet His Royal Highness and his court. During his visit he enjoyed hunting, fishing and feasting.

Legend has it that during a grand banquet, the king was so moved by a huge joint of beef served to him, that he rose to his feet and drew his sword and knighted it on the table in front of him “Sir Loin”.

ABOUT US

. The farm has largely focused on sheep, with a commercial flock of over 1000 lambing ewes with the aim of a low management self replacing flock. In total we will calve 40 pedigree polled Hereford cattle this year with a view to expand to 50 in the coming years. We have recently took semen from two homebred bulls with Hoghton View 1 Jackaroo semen for sale in the UK and Hoghton View 1 Endure semen available for sale world wide.

Hoghton View Polled Herefords originally started out in 2015 with blood lines purchased from Baldinnie Poll Herefords, Romany Herefords, The FABB Herd, Dendor Poll Herefords, Coley Herefords, Barwise Herefords, Whitehill Herefords, IntelAgri, Goulding Poll Herefords and Auckvale Herefords. We have purchased embryo's from Canada, including breeders such as Harvie Ranching, Remittal West, and have also carried out our own flushing programme.

Our Hereford beef is born and raised on our farm in Hoghton, our cattle graze the fields surrounding Hoghton Tower enjoying a rich natural diet giving real taste to the meat.

Hereford Beef contains plenty of marbled fat throughout the different cuts of meat. This marbling results in a delicious cook every time. The meat is full of flavour and extremely succulent, meaning it tastes fantastic.

In addition to the traceability of our beef, its high quality, its succulence and its tenderness separate it from all the rest – an eating experience that can only be described as unique
